Fruit Logistica, the fruit and vegetable trade fair that matters worldwide, was held in Berlin from 6 up to and including 8 February. Dutch Plantin was one of the 3,300 exhibitors. The topic of the day at the trade fair: coconut substrate as the ultimate breeding ground for blueberries.
Huge interest
The application of one hundred per cent pure coconut substrate for growing blueberries is increasing rapidly. Where many growers were reluctant to grow blueberries on coconut substrate till recently, keen interest was shown at the trade fair now. We talked about it with many existing and new customers.
Based on trust
Growing blueberries on coconut substrate offers many advantages when compared to growing on peat. The pH level can adequately be managed and the watering can be better controlled. An additional advantage is that coconut is very sustainable. See also the article we wrote about this. It is striking, though, that the growing interest in the coconut growbags and pots is predominantly based on trust. They are excellent for growing blueberry plants, and experts also say that the future belongs to coconut substrate. But nevertheless, no one can give any guarantees for a cultivation of ten years. It is good to see that growers worldwide dare to abandon guarantees and put their trust in promising prospects.
An impression
