Cocopeat is a natural, and renewable resource produced from coconut husks. When coconut husks are being processed, two type of products are being extracted:

1.Coconut fibres to be used in matresses, etc.
2.Cocopeat to be used in the professional horticultural industry.

Dutch Plantin has a factory in India where we actually make the cocopeat suitable for horticultural usage. In its natural form, cocopeat needs some changes before it can be used in the horticultural sector.

We first wash the cocopeat, dry it, screen it and grade before being processed into various Cocopeat products for Horticultural and Agricultural applications.

Potting soil manufactures add value to potting mixes by adding 10-50% good quality Cocopeat to their potting mixtures. The plants grown in Cocopeat require less frequent watering as a result of more water holding capacity of the Cocopeat. More number of finer roots in a shorter time can be seen in potting soil containing Cocopeat. The roots get more aeration resulting in healthier plants.

Cocopeat have now become the buzz word in hydrophonics. Cocopeat as a growing medium gives an excellent opportunity for you to add new product lines to their existing ones. They can also supply the green houses, nursery costumers, landscapers and home garden chains with a value added and environmentally friendly growing media.

Many Flower and vegetable growers grow their Flower and vegetables in buckets filled with Cocopeat. The advantage of this system is the height of the substrate in which roots can grow. A higher substrate will create zones with several moisture levels. Especially in warm climates this means the roots can search themselves for the best place to grow which will result in healthy roots and plant growth.

In a higher substrate the temporary lack of water supply will not affect the plants much. There will be a lot of finer roots developed all over the substrate and it will protect the plant from the tropical heat.

The Cocopeat will thus ensure sufficient amount of water for the plant without compromising on the drainage capacity. This in turn will result in more available water for the plants as well as better aeration for the roots. And the result of this can be observed in production and quality.

It has been observed that a lot of Flower and vegetable growers now use Cocopeat in trafts instead of buckets. The trafts with similar benefits as buckets is mostly used in the hydroponic systems.

Cocopeat has proven to be an excellent growing medium for the entire growth period of the crops.
