From experiment to global player

What can we do with coco pith? And how can this by-product help improve the world? Our journey began in 1984 in search of answers. Together with rose growers, we experimented with coconut as a growing medium. Our growth and impact are the result of a smart approach: we work with local producers and optimize our production facilities in the Netherlands. We set high standards for ourselves and our customers. It’s no coincidence that Dutch Plantin – which is exceptional in the world of coconut products – is both a producer and a supplier.

Quality

Thanks to our own production facilities with local management, we maintain control over raw materials, the production process, and the quality of our products. Our customers, wherever they are in the world, can rely on 24/7 support and advice via our helpdesk.

A deal is a deal

Fulfilling commitments is a matter of mindset and of creating the right conditions. With our geographically distributed factories, we can deliver year-round. We also manage our own logistics – ensuring no surprises for us or our customers.

Sustainable partnerships

Sustainable relationships with our customers are the foundation of our success – and theirs. But we never take any partnership for granted: every day, we aim to give our absolute best.

Down-to-earth

We work with products that nature provides. We’re aware of that every single day – it keeps us grounded. But we’re not afraid to think big: we constantly feel the drive to pioneer and explore new paths.

Sustainable pioneering

Sustainable Pioneering Even back when sustainability wasn’t a priority, Dutch Plantin saw the potential of coconut fibers as a growing medium. Today, we’re a global leader in sustainable coconut substrates for cultivating vegetables, fruits, flowers, and plants.

Innovation is in our DNA. In the 1990s, we developed a unique buffering technique to remove sodium and potassium from coconut and add calcium. This method has now become the global standard. But we continue to innovate to improve our products and reduce our environmental footprint

Our impact on the planet

Sustainability means more than eco-friendly production. We invest in the countries where we operate, so we not only deliver high-quality products but also improve lives.

Our Impact on People

We believe that companies can make a truly positive difference. In South India, where our main production sites are located, life can be challenging. We help our employees build a better future.

“What drives us? Working toward a better world and a healthier environment.”

Innovation for a sustainable future

Dutch Plantin has been the largest producer and exporter of coconut substrates for horticulture for over ten years – and we continue to innovate. We are constantly working on better quality, more reliable deliveries, and a more sustainable production process.

  • Less fertilizer and water – coconut substrates help growers save on fertilizer and water, contributing to more sustainable agriculture.
  • Less plastic – our grow bags last for multiple seasons, significantly reducing plastic waste.
  • Research & Development – together with Wageningen University & Research, we’re exploring how coconut substrates can be used in closed cultivation systems.

Together, we’re making the world more sustainable for people, businesses, and the planet.
