Reeds vanaf het begin van de ontwikkelingen van Dutch Plantin kokos in Nederland begin jaren ’90 is de firma Zuurbier & Co hierbij betrokken. “We telen al op kokos vanaf 1991” zegt Kees Oudhuis. “Aanvankelijk op balen gevuld met losse kokos welke in Nederland geproduceerd werden, maar sinds de geperste kokosplanken beschikbaar kwamen in 2002 telen we naar tevredenheid hierop”.<\/strong>
\n“We gebruiken de kokosplanken tot zo’n 6-7 jaar zolang de betreffende soort goed rendeert. De speciale gelaagde plank met bovenin kokosgruis en onderin kokos-chips staat garant voor voldoende luchtig blijven gedurende die lange teeltduur.”<\/strong>
\nIn Heerhugowaard worden op 13 ha zo’n 35 miljoen rozen geteeld. De kwekerij is ISO-9002 gecertificeerd en heeft het MPS-A keurmerk.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2001 is Zuurbier & Co gestart met een rozenkwekerij in Kenia. Onder de naam Bilashaka Flowers wordt op 29 ha rozen jaarlijks zo’n 40 miljoen rozen geproduceerd. De kwekerij is gevestigd aan het meer van Naivasha in Kenia, en is een innovatieve onderneming die moderne (Nederlandse) teelttechnieken toepast.
\nZo worden de rozen voor het overgrote deel geteeld op substraat: een mengsel van Dutch Plantin kokos en puimsteen.
\n“Puimsteen is lokaal aanwezig en de mix met goede kokos geeft ons een perfect stuurbaar substraat voor acceptabele kosten”, aldus Kees.
\nIn Kenia wordt de kokos zo’n 5 jaar in de teelt gebruikt alvorens vervangen te worden.<\/p>\n
