Initially, producers used the pure cocopeat in an untreated state as a substrate. It was used for the cultivation of roses and tomatoes, or mixed into composts. It soon became apparent that the coir did not deliver enough calcium to the plants this way. That was due to ‘calcium fixation’.
Gradual release of calcium
In the early 1990s, Dutch Plantin developed a solution. By buffering the cocopeat before processing it into cultivation products, it was found that the calcium fixation took place earlier and this led to an improvement in the supply of calcium to the plant. Over a period of ten years, the technique, effectiveness and capacity was optimised. Now, almost all crops growers turn to our extremely sustainable cocopeat substrate. This has resulted in a sustainability certificate in more and more countries.
More than 40 countries worldwide
Dutch Plantin supplies growers in and around the Netherlands via the potting soil industry. In total, we export more than ¾ million m3 of cocopeat products to more than 40 countries around the world. As India’s largest manufacturer and exporter we provide more and more customers with the perfect coconut product. Through which, high productions per m2 of sustainably cultivated, high-quality food are sustainably grown.
